Two of the Women NBA ‘s most well-known players, Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu, chose not to take part in Friday’s 3-point game in Phoenix. Ionescu is focused on the Olympic camp, according to the Associated Press, as he gets ready for the Paris Olympics, where he will play Japan in group play on July 29. Clark, who was not included on Team USA’s roster, is nearing the end of an incredible debut season that has seen her break records in the first half of the season. Terri Carmichael Jackson, the head of the WNBA Players’ Association, expressed disapproval on Wednesday to rumors that the league will get close to $200 million a year as part of the NBA’s $75 billion, 11-year TV rights agreement with Disney, NBC, and Amazon.
Later that night, during the Indiana Fever’s loss against the Dallas Wings to end the first half of the season, Clark broke the record for most assists in a single game in the WNBA with 19. The only two rookies named all-stars were her and Angel Reese of Chicago.
The most recent collective bargaining agreement for the WNBA states that players that compete in the 3-point shootout earn $1,030, with the champion taking home $2,575.
Nneka Ogwumike, president of the WNBPA and forward for the Seattle Storm, posted on X after discussions regarding the bonus payout amounts went viral on social media. She stated that insurance provider Aflac is “supplementing the league’s pay” by adding $55,000 to the winners’ payouts for the skills challenge and 3-point contest.

Aflac, through a relationship with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), is offering a bonus of $55,000 each to the winners of competitions at the WNBA All-Star Weekend.

ong with Ionescu, Jonquel Jones of the New York Liberty, Stefanie Dolson of the Washington Mystics, Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream, Marina Mabrey of the Connecticut Sun, and Kayla McBride of the Minnesota Lynx are competing in this year’s 3-point competition.
Ionescu took part in a 3-point shootout with Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry during the NBA’s All-Star weekend in February, but Curry prevailed by a margin of three points.
On Saturday night, Clark and Ionescu will both play in the WNBA All-Star Game.

Caitlin Clark was born January 22, 2002, is an American professional basketball player for Indiana Fever of the Women’s National Ball Association (WNBA).
She played basketball for the Iowa Hawkeyes and is respected as one of the most prominent collegiate players of all time.
Clark is the NCAA Division I all-time driving scorer and was a two-time national player of the year with the Hawkeyes.
